BYU Brussels Opera, Ballet & Vaudeville

This research collection for opera, ballet & vaudeville consists of a selection of print and manuscript scores, libretti, mise en scène, programs, scene designs and other archival documents. The materials date from the 17th through the 20th centuries. Its strengths include scores and performance materials from the French and Italian repertories dating from the late 18th and 19th centuries. Special features include a large collection of copyists’ manuscript scores for the operas of Giovanni Paisiello active in Naples in the early 19th century. Other noteworthy highlights include scores and orchestral parts for 18th-century French opéra comique. Numerous composer holography scores are also found in the collection. Most of the materials come from Music Special Collections in the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University and the Fonds of the Théâtre de la Monnaie conserved at the Archives de la Ville de Bruxelles. Additional materials may be included from other European libraries and archives.
