The College of Physicians of Philadelphia Historical Medical Library

The Historical Medical Library of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, established in 1788, is one of the world's premier research collections in the history of medicine. The unique holdings of the Library include over 400 incunabula, an extensive collection of manuscripts and archives, and a comprehensive collection of 19th and early 20th-century medical journals. The Library is a Principal Contributor to the Medical Heritage Library (MHL), a digital curation collaborative among some of the world’s leading medical libraries, which offers free and open access to quality historical resources in medicine through the Internet Archive. The Library has digitized several hundred thousand pages of early American medical journals thanks to the MHL’s award from the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Humanities Collections and Reference Resources program.
