Qualifying for Print Disability Special Access
The Internet Archive offers special access for patrons with disabilities that impact reading. If you have a disability that interferes with reading printed text, you may qualify for special access to books in your browser or via protected download.
For Individuals
These instructions are for individuals with print disabilities to receive special access to Internet Archive collections by qualifying through authorized institutions. The process is free and only requires you have registered a free Archive.org or OpenLibrary.org account.
Are you pre-qualified?
If you have been certified by one of the following programs, you may use your existing credential to automatically enroll in special access:BARD (National Library Service)
BARD passwordThe National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (NLS), of the Library of Congress, provides services to residents of the United States with disabilities by providing them with alternate formats of their readings. The BARD service of the NLS offers qualified NLS patrons online access to special-format materials.
(Your Internet Archive email address will be used to login to the BARD system. The two emails must match.)
ACE Portal (Ontario, Canada)
ACE portal tokenThe ACE (Accessible Content E-Portal) is a service from Ontario Council of University Libraries that supports users with print-disabilities at participating universities in Ontario, Canada by providing access to library books in accessible formats. To find out which universities are participants, please refer to the list of schools on this page.
For Qualifying Organizations
If you are an organization that serves the print-disabled, including schools, libraries, and hospitals, please apply to become a Qualifying Authority in order to grant access to your print-disabled community.
