Born in London and raised in Queensland, Tom Lillingstone spent his early years in Marburg, Brisbane, and later in Maleny on the Blackall Range. In 1907, he emigrated to Canada with family, but the call of home soon brought him back to Australia where he lived in various towns in Queensland and New South Wales. In World War I, he enlisted in Lismore, New South Wales. Just a year later, in October 1917, Tom fell during the Battle of Broodseinde Ridge in Belgium, making the ultimate sacrifice in service of his country.
