They were easily assembled, strong enough for someone to sit on, and sturdy enough to hold a desktop computer and phone. The use of these temporary desks saved the Census Bureau approximately $6M in operating costs. When the temporary offices closed, they donated the desks and chairs to local school, churches, and recreation centers
